Therapeutic Orientation

My philosophy is Humanistic-Existential and my approach is Integrative: Person-centred, Transactional Analysis, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Schema Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Psychodynamic, Systemic, Transpersonal, Gestalt and Mindfulness.

“Existential therapists do not pamper their clients” Emmy Van Deurzen

The role of the existential psychotherapist is to help the individual focus on personal responsibility for making decisions.

Coaching

My approach is structured,  goal-oriented, solution-focused, collaborative and conversational.

Additional Services

Alongside clinical work and coaching I also offer, management training, team-building, supervision and continuing professional development (“CPD”) workshops in a variety of interventions and specialist interest topics including attachment in relationships, trauma, memory, alcohol and substance misuse, anxiety, anger, personality disorders and disordered eating.

How do I begin therapy?

The first courageous step is to make contact and arrange a time that we can chat about your concerns. This chat is known as the assessment appointment and starts the process. The assessment is not so clinical as in attending a GP or hospital, neither is it interrogative, intrusive or invasive. It is simply the space where we look at your history leading up to you choosing to seek help. A platform for us to decide how best we might work together going forwards, a chance to talk about confidentiality (NB for security notes are handwritten only, stored and securely archived), receive a clear overview of the options available, discover the therapist’s philosophy informing what therapy in practice really looks like. If we decide we are a fit and choose to continue, review takes place approximately every six weeks.  Please note that although you may experience a range of feelings, the first session is for assessment only and no therapy takes place.
